Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of CRISPR-Cas9, a groundbreaking gene-editing technology that has revolutionized biological research and holds immense potential for therapeutic applications. CRISPR-Cas9, derived from a bacterial adaptive immune system, utilizes a programmable RNA guide to direct the Cas9 nuclease to a specific DNA sequence for cleavage and subsequent modification. By the conclusion of this course, students will be well-versed in the concepts, principle, and experimental procedures of CRISPR-Cas9 technology, as well as its wide-ranging applications in biomedical research.

Learner Outcomes

When you complete the course successfully, you will be able to:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the principles underlying CRISPR gene-editing technology.
  • Analyze and compare different methods for introducing CRISPR components into cells, considering their advantages and limitations.
  • Identify and compare the various applications of CRISPR technology across diverse experimental contexts.
  • Utilize CRISPR-based genome-wide screens, in conjunction with bioinformatic analysis, to apply in scientific research.
  • Critically assess the current and potential future applications of CRISPR gene editing in treating human diseases, including associated challenges and ethical considerations.
